Anaerobic Digestion

Anaerobic digestion (AD) is a biological conversion technology that treats various organic wastes to generate biogas, which contains mainly methane, carbon dioxide and a slight amount of hydrogen, hydrogen sulfide, ammonia and water vapor. As a sustainable energy source, biogas can be used as afuel for heating or co-generation of electricity and heat. The biogas can also be injected into pipelines and used as natural gas after upgrading to more than 97% methane. Moreover, methane gas is a good feed source for fuel cells to generate electricity.
Besides, anaerobic digestion also has many environmental benefits including odor and greenhouse gas control and reduction, solid waste reduction, nutrient recycling and reclamation. Digestate, thematerial remaining after anaerobic digestion, is an organic-based nutrient source for plants, thus can be used as soil improvement or organic fertilizer. The liquid effluent from the digester could also be further processed to produce desirable fertilizer products.

HELEE-HC, High Concentration Digestion Technology
The process is accomplished in the Continuous Stirred Tank Reactor (CSTR) and/or Anaerobic Sequential Batch Reactor (ASBR) with high concentration and mediumtemperature. Efficient mixing and heatingare critical technology breakthroughsfor this system, which ensure the substrates more accessible to enzymes and microorganisms at optimum growth environmental conditions. The technology is featured by significantly reduced energy consumption, highprocessing capacity and biogas production, easier management and operation, and low cost.

HELEE-HR, as the most stable and effective industrializationtechnology among the constructed projects, is not limitedby climate or geographical conditions. It is featured by fast material degradation, high production of biogas, small footprint, lowcost and easy operation.

HELEE-ET, Effluent Treatment Technology
HELEE-ET adopts the advanced technologies including aerobic degradation, solid-liquid separation, membrane filtration, etc., to utilize digester effluent slurries, solid residuals and system wastewater for producing high quality organic fertilizer, soil conditioner and reclaimed water.

HELEE-SR, Sand Removal Technology
Accounting for 8% of chicken manure dry weight, the sand has long been a problem for widely implementing digestion technologies to chicken manure.Without removing sand from manure, the shell powder and sand will deposits and accumulates in theanaerobic digesters and pipeline,and consequently compromise the process flow. With Helee'sproprietary spiral sand removal system and medium temperature hydrolysis process, more than 90% of sand can be successfully removed from chicken manure and therefore reduces the burden of high operating and maintenance cost of the digestion system.

HELEE-BU, Biogas Utilization Technology
Helee designs and fabricates cost-effective biogas conditioning and upgradingtechnologies to generate varies end products.Helee's patented biological desulfurization process promotes the action of colorlessbacteria to convert different states of sulfuric pollutants to element sulfur via biological oxidation reactions. Through two bio-desulfurization steps, H2S concentration in the biogas could be reduced from1,000 ppm to less than 10 ppm. Membrane filtration and/or co-gen are also part of the system to produce Renewable Natural Gas (RNG) and/or renewable electricity and heat.

Research Laboratory,R&D Centerand Pilot Plant
Helee is committed to creative ideas and innovative technologies. We invest millions of dollars each year in our research labs, R&D center, and pilot plant operations. Helee has collaboratively established a joint research laboratory with Bio-Environmental Laboratory at University of California, Davis. More than 20 talented scientists, researchers and engineers are dedicated to R&D projects.Besides the R&D center, Helee has one 3 – 5 tons per day contracted pilot plant with full capacity and functionality to serve as R&D facility. Any innovative developments and novel products will be tested in this nearly-full-scale facility before commencing to the public.
